Chatfield Education Foundation Aids Hugs From Hunter Foundation

In Chatfield, Minnesota, students are making a difference—one blanket at a time. Thanks to a Chatfield Education Foundation grant, Ann Shanahan, a former teacher of Hunter Biermeier, was able to purchase fabric and scissors for students to create blankets for children in crisis through the Hugs From Hunter Foundation.

Ann, a sixth-grade teacher at Chatfield Elementary, enlisted the help of 4th-6th grade students, teaching them the value of compassion as they cut and tied blankets to comfort children experiencing trauma.

Students at Chatfield Elementary School tie blankets for the Hugs From Hunter Foundation. Funds for fabric and scissors were provided by the Chatfield Education Foundation.

Hugs From Hunter Foundation: Carrying on Hunter’s Legacy

Hunter Biermeier, a kindhearted and sports-loving 12-year-old, had a dream of bringing joy to children in hospitals. After his passing, the Hugs From Hunter Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit, was created to honor his memory by providing teddy bears and security blankets to children in need.

These blankets offer warmth, security, and a sense of comfort, making a lasting impact on children facing hardship.

Chatfield Education Foundation: Supporting Teachers and Students

The Chatfield Education Foundation, led by a board of 13 dedicated parents and grandparents, funds educational experiences, classroom supplies, field trips, and special initiatives outside the school district’s budget. Through a grant application process, teachers can request funding for projects that enhance student learning and well-being—just like Ann’s blanket initiative.
