About Us
Hugs From Hunter Foundation began when Marli Overgard Wolfe saw a need to comfort other children after the death of her cousin Hunter Biermeier in 2011. Marli was only 14 years old when Hunter died at age 12. Through her grief, she saw Hunter’s younger siblings grieving and committed to helping kids with anxiety, trauma, and crisis.
Developing Compassionate Leaders
Marli engaged her family and soon they were providing teddy bears and security blankets to comfort and help:
Kids with anxiety
Grieving children
Hospitalized children
Children experiencing natural disasters
Children witnessing violence
Volunteer and Service Opportunities
Soon, others expressed interest in supporting Hugs From Hunter Foundation’s mission and we started to offer volunteer opportunities for youth, adults, families, and service organizations. Volunteers can engage in fundraising and regularly create security blankets which are gifted along with teddy bears to many partner organizations:
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Gundersen, La Crosse, WI
Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, St. Paul, MN
Mayo Clinic Pediatric Cardiac ICU, Rochester, MN
Ronald McDonald House Charities Midwest, Rochester, MN - A home away from home and gives support to families seeking medical care for their children
Sojourner Project Shelter, Minneapolis, MN - A secure, temporary residence for women and children who are unsafe in their own home
We appreciate volunteers of all ages and want to help in developing future leaders who exemplify Hunter’s qualities of compassion, integrity, and service.
